It was back to school for Rotarians as they attended the inaugural District 9820 Interact Conference at Nossal High School. Students and teachers from Frankston High, Lowana and St Margaret’s represented our Interact groups and what a great job they did.

Kate Wilde, a facilitator with great experience delivered leadership skills and did an amazing job. It was very pleasing to see how the young embraced the messages, engaged with each other, and delivered a stirring message about how they engage in their schools and communities. The last session saw each Interact club develop a plan for identifying and delivering service projects, a process that our clubs could adopt.
It was pleasing to see was many Mums and Dads who came to observe their children in action. It gave Rotary a chance to showcase some of our great projects including our amazing Sky Juice, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA), End Trachoma Now, Dream cricket and a fresh new environmental focus with Landcare and bees. Interestingly our youthful participants were flagging environment and equality as very important issues for the future. Thank you everyone, it is a great way of connecting with our future leaders and spreading the word about what Rotary does to the community.

It was great to see many representatives from our Clubs taking a great opportunity for everyone to see what our youth team is doing, the quality of the youth program at this conference was outstanding so our future looks bright. I encourage each club to seriously look at the prospect of establishing an Interact club. It could be a school based or a community based club. What better way of engaging with the youth and our communities. A special thank you to Josie Wilson our District Interact chair and Rob Cook, District Youth chair for the countless hours of work to make this conference a GREAT success. I can hardly wait for next year.
