You're Welcome.

July 2023

THANK YOU

For the opportunity to serve in the role of District Governor. I look forward to the year ahead as DG for D9820 “The last one in the book”, I’m not brave enough to say “saving the best for last” however I promise to do my best in the year ahead.

Rotary International President Gordon McInally stated that "Rotary helps create the conditions for peace, opportunity, and a future worth living." By continuing what we do best, remaining open and willing to change, and keeping our focus on building peace in the world and within ourselves, Rotary helps create a more peaceful world — a more hopeful world.

I’m looking forward to getting around the district to meet as many of you as possible, I can come and speak to every club individually, if that is what your club wants or to come and serve alongside you, I want to be involved hands-on in projects and meet Rotarians doing what we do best, changing lives and serving our communities and Creating Hope in the World, so please send through your invites as I’ve got a calendar to fill and energy to burn.

Let us all come together and support RIP Gordon McInally's vision of "Create Hope in the World". Join us in making a difference and restoring hope in the lives of those in need.

Linda

July is Maternal and Child Health Month

Maternal and child care is one of Rotary’s main causes. Rotary makes health care available to vulnerable mothers and children so they can live longer and grow stronger.

It is estimated that close to 6 million children under the age of five die each year because of malnutrition, inadequate health care, and poor sanitation, which can all be prevented. Rotary clubs and districts dedicate their efforts to improve access to quality care so that mothers and children can have long-serving opportunities for a healthy future. Projects to support mothers and children include mobile prenatal clinics, cancer screening, immunizations, and training on how to protect themselves and their children from disease.

Warragul Rotary Park

Warragul Rotary has celebrated 85 years of community service. What better way to celebrate when President Chris Drennan presented a painting to the Baw Baw Shire Mayor which was the inspiration for the Rotary Community Garden Indigenous Design

Auntie Dr Eileen Harrison is a renowned indigenous artist. Her painting, titled ‘Art from the Air’, is the inspiration for the new indigenous garden at Rotary Park, Latrobe St, Warragul.
The painting was acquired by the Rotary Club of Warragul and today we formally presented it to Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Annemarie McCabe.
The indigenous garden project is a wonderful example of collaboration between the local indigenous community and the Rotary Club of Warragul supported by Baw Baw Shire and a number of other organisations and individuals.

Of course cake was involved!

RYLA Feedback

Rotary Programs Change Peoples lives

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) was recently held on the Mornington Peninsula. Another amazing success. Please see below the response from just one Rylarian

Hello Barry, just wanted to say how grateful I am that I got to experience RYLA this week. I really wanted to write in your PC book but just didn't get the chance so I just wanted to pass this message along.

RYLA was truly a life-changing experience and it was one of the best things that's ever happened to me. I've never felt so seen and recognized by so many people and I just feel beyond blessed to have experienced that. RYLA holds a very special place in my heart, the things I've learnt and the knowledge I have gained will resonate with me throughout my life and RYLA has allowed me to foster lifelong connections. I have overcome many challenges during RYLA, and overcoming these challenges has given me this new level of confidence I never realised I had, and I feel like I've truly come out of my shell.

I just wanted to thank you personally for everything you have done for me throughout this week. The conversations we had have really resonated with me and all your ongoing support and encouragement means more than you could ever know. You have helped me with my personal growth and I truly cannot thank you enough for that. This was my first experience with Rotary and it certainly will not be the last. I would like nothing more than to make Rotary a part of my life and to participate as a leader in the future because RYLA has been the turning point that has changed my life. Thank you so much Barry, take care and I look forward to seeing you again when the time comes.

Egypt Anyone?

Dear fellow Rotarians,

The members and the board of the Rotary Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan - District 2451 would like to extend a warm invitation to you and the members of your club to join our Rotary organized initiative, "Cross Egypt Challenge" that will take you on a unique journey throughout Egypt this October.

Cross Egypt Challenge is an international cross-country motorcycle and scooter adventure tour conducted throughout the majestic and fascinating Egypt. This amazing Rotary project started in 2011 for the purpose of promoting tourism to Egypt, and for the past 11 years, Rotarians and riders from over 50 countries took part in this unique and amazing challenge.

The 2023 season of Cross Egypt Challenge will start on October 6, last for 10 days and will pass by Egypt's top attractions and off the beaten track destinations including Sinai, Luxor, the Red Sea Riviera and the Egyptian Eastern Desert. Participation is open for Rotarians and non-rotarians and their accompanying spouses or friends from around the globe. People who do not ride motorcycles or scooters can also join this amazing adventure and be hosted in air-conditioned chase vans. Cross Egypt Challenge provides a very rewarding and challenging experience for participants from around the globe as it combines the best of adventure travels and extreme sports.

A normal practice we are used to conduct during Cross Egypt Challenge is an annual "Sahara Rotary Meeting" where participating Rotarians along with Rotaracts from our organizing team conduct an official Rotary meeting in the Egyptian Desert – please view the attached image -, a practice that we happily repeat at each new season.

We are happy to invite you, and the members of your club to join the tour this October, be it on a scooter, on a motorcycle or in our chase vans and enjoy a once in a life-time experience (a motorcycle and scooter rental option is available for international participants).
